Press Release: Constitution Day September 2026

Constitution Day 2026 is Thursday, September 17, 2026, and once again Judicial Officers of the Monterey County Superior Court have offered to present to 5th grade classes at area schools. As you are aware, Constitution Day is an American observance that recognizes the adoption of the United States Constitution and those who have become U.S. citizens. It is normally observed on September 17th, the day in 1787 that delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in Philadelphia. The law establishing the present holiday was created in 2004 with the passage of an amendment by Senator Robert Byrd. The law passed mandates that all educational institutions provide educational programming on the United States Constitution on that day.

To accommodate schools throughout Monterey County, Judges and Commissioners will be available to present during the week of September 14th through 24th. The presentations will be approximately thirty to sixty minutes long, which includes time for questions and answers. If you are interested in scheduling a Judicial Officer to present to your class(es), please submit your request no later than September 1st to Sarah Erps by email at: Sarah.erps@monterey.courts.ca.gov or by phone at (831) 775-5639.

Presently, there are over 90 schools in Monterey County, so contact Sarah Erps at the Monterey County Superior Court at your earliest convenience.
