Self Help Center

The Court’s Self Help Center continues to assist parties who are not currently represented by an attorney during our emergency closure. You can contact staff of the Self Help Center by calling 831-647-5800, X 3005 or by emailing selfhelpcenter@monterey.courts.ca.gov.

Form packets with instructions to file urgent motions regarding restraining orders, child custody, or child support can be found under “Forms” on the court’s website at https://www.monterey.courts.ca.gov/forms.

If you need to file a request for domestic violence restraining orders or a request for a change in your child support, there are two new simplified form packets at the bottom of the “Forms” list to make these forms easier to complete.

Family Law

The court is open for all scheduled hearings. However, the clerk’s office windows are closed June 15 to June 25, 2020. If you are on calendar and your hearing has been scheduled as a remote appearance, please appear remotely, otherwise you should appear for your hearing. If you are unsure, please contact your attorney or the court. Trials resume on June 15, 2020.

Traffic

UPDATE FOR JUNE 15 THROUGH JUNE 24, 2020: The clerk’s office will be open but operating with limited staff and hours. The courtrooms will be open for hearings as scheduled, the clerk’s windows hours will be limited to 8 am to 1pm. To avoid longer than normal in person wait times, many matters can be handled by phone (831) 883-5300 Ext. 3011 English and ext. 3007 Spanish or online. Scheduled matters are being heard. If you are on calendar and your hearing has been scheduled as a remote appearance, please appear remotely, otherwise you should appear for your hearing. If you have an appearance date on your citation, please call to schedule an appearance. If you are not sure please call the court at (831) 883-5300 Ext. 3011 English and ext. 3007 Spanish.

E-Filing

All filings in all case types should be submitted electronically. Persons who are unable to file documents electronically may file by mail; by using the drop box; or in person at the appropriate courthouse.

Criminal

The clerk’s office is open. Scheduled matters are being heard in all departments. If you have a scheduled hearing you should appear for your hearing. If you have an attorney, please contact your attorney regarding your appearance.

Civil

The court is open for all scheduled hearings. However, the clerk’s office windows are closed June 15 to June 25, 2020. If you are on calendar and your hearing has been scheduled as a remote appearance, please appear remotely, otherwise you should appear for your hearing. If you are unsure, please contact your attorney or the court. Jury trials resume in Civil matters June 15, 2020.

Juvenile matters are currently being heard.

Probate

The court is open for all scheduled hearings. However, the clerk’s office windows are closed June 15 to June 25, 2020. All Probate matters resume June 17, 2020.
